#reVOLT wins MBV

Another great Myrtle Beach golf weekend has concluded, and this time team, #reVOLT has taken back the title (The M) from Fairway to Heaven. After last year's heartbreaking 8-8 playoff loss, the team in volt came to MBV determined and looking for redemption. Below is the final scoreboard form the entire competition

Thursday- Practice rounds @ River Oaks

Arriving at MB Thursday AM

The non golf guys warmed up on the range before checking in

Dante, Duce, Coates, Bill and Marty got to MB early and played True Blue in the morning. I was originally going to be there as well, couldn't make it- and unfortunately these guys had to play a a 2some and 3some. My bad. Per Bill's snaps- they all seemed to to have a great time anyway which was nice to see, despite my heightened FOMO. The full group had played this course 2 years ago, but this time the major difference was that Dante hired a caddy for the round. Typically a caddy would help replace divots, read putts, help with club selection, etc but this was a different type of caddy. Her name was Alicen .

Yikes.  Alicen was LATE to the round (shocker, she didn't make the 7:30am tee time?!?) and ended up joining Dante for the afternoon round as well. One thing that stood out- she mentioned to me in the afternoon (I played with Dante) she had never seen golfers clean their clubs after each shot with a brush like Dante and I were doing. What?! Anyway the only time we'll likely ever see Alicen again is if we recruit her to give Joe a good/possibly winnable Sunday singles match next year.

In the afternoon, the full group (minus Joe) continued a mini (probably dead) tradition of playing River Oaks Golf Plantation. AKA the site where Abe first murdered Jeremy at MB 4.0 on the 18th green. The weather wasn't great- It was a little rainy- and with impending gloomy weather in the forecast for Friday, there was small talk of using Thursday as the Four Ball match. We ended up deciding against that- mostly due to our group weatherman ABE who was CONFIDENT that we would be good to go for Friday. Spoiler: rain and lightening  ended up dominating us on Friday afternoon. Good call Abe.

Ryan and his Myrtle Beach little brother Jamie, matched in a two man scramble vs me and Dante. In past matches vs the Blogbrins,  Dante and I had won 2&1 and 1up, so everyone was looking forward to this match being tightly contested. Unfortunately I didn't really show up until the back 9- maybe not hitting balls for 3 weeks wasn't the best strategy- and by that time Jamie and Ryan were about done giving us opportunities to win holes. I played with Ryan a handful of times all weekend, this practice round was the best I saw him play. Thanks Ryan, good job in the practice round! Jamie had a great hole out from the sand late in the match and without any magic this afternoon, Dante and I fell 3&2. Truthfully it was better this way, especially in hindsight, this practice round win may have kept Jamie's MB life afloat for at least 1 more year.

The other main Thursday attraction was the Jeremy vs Abe heads up match play. While this was a practice round for most, by no means was it insignificant to these two.  If you haven't seen a good pillow fight in a while, my suggestion is to buy a ticket to the next time these guys play against each other. Their match on Thursday was SOFT. Abe took  a 4up lead to the turn (winning multiple holes with double bogeys), but proceeded to lose holes 13, 14, 15, 16 AND 17 to go 1 down headed to 18. (NOT A TYPO. He actually did lose 5 holes in a row.)  By this time, the darkness was creeping in and most of the entire group (including Allison) watched these guys play 18. Abe actually came through by sucking less, won the 18th hole, and squared the match.  That means over the last 3 heads up matches between these two, Abe has won 1up, 2&1, and went AS in the third. I guess Jeremy just cant beat Abe. Yikes.

Thursday Night was fun. We ordered pizzas, watched TNF and the Red Sox (World Series Champs, #supJeremy, #supBeck) and played our traditional game of beer hockey. the MVP of the night though, was none other than Adan Beckford. I would normally attempt to describe the shenanigans that went on, but no words can describe this.

It's just too bad you cant win MB points for your team off the course, because Adam deserved something for the free* entertainment. Have to give props to Bill too, for creating the GIF of the year:

Friday- Fourball at Heritage Golf Club

Friday morning was a rainy one on property at Legends, but after calling Heritage (off site, on Pawley's island) we were encouraged to hear not a drop of rain had hit the course. Abe went full weatherman mode- I'm borderline shocked he didn't bring his second CPU monitor to MB to watch radar. But, he was VERY confident that the afternoon on Pawley's Island would not only be dry, but certainly be absent of any lightening and thunder. Bets were made. Emotions were running high. We left for the course around 10:30 as a group and as we approached the course, the rain stopped and Abe seemed to be vindicated. Snaps were sent making fun of the people nervous about the weather. Marty was getting killed in the group blog.  Abe was flying high. However, as you know.... 3 hours later we were all soaking wet after half the round with thunder and lightning rampant around the course. Poor Abe. Wrong again.

Adam vs Team Mosey Team (Beck and #)
This match was over the second we left for the course, since Adam was too "ill" to make the round. Which was a bummer.. Adam was supposed to play with Joe who had travel issues and missed the round. This left Team Mosey Team... GREAT unis... with a half point guaranteed and a paper matchup with Jeremy/Marty..... We had the captains of FTH text back their scores every hole and TMT "played against them", 3 groups behind. The half point guaranteed was the only one we put on the scoreboard, and team FTH were all collectively saying:

Jeremy/Marty vs Campbell/Abe
The start of what would be a gloomy weekend for Jeremy. Abe and Campbell were dominating at the turn... and by Abe and Campbell I really just mean Campbell. The last time we saw Campbell in MB action was at MB 3.0 when, in fact, Jeremy beat Campbell 1up on Heathland for major bragging rights. A loss so bad that it forced Bunny to get married for extra support, and skip MB4.0. On this day, however, Bunny got his revenge. While the match was never officially won, Campbell posted his LOWEST 9 HOLE ROUND OF HIS LIFE- a 40. And this was at a nice, challenging track. Campbell provided a ton of momentum for #reVOLT with this dominating performance in the first match of the weekend, despite not actually winning an official point for it.

Dante/Paul vs Bill/Dan
Bill and Dan lost in this format to Dante and Jeremy at 4.0, and were excited to get another crack as a fourball team. I'm quite certain they played good, not great. That being said, this weekend especially, you have to play great to beat Dante. Paul helped out in with PARS on BOTH par 3's ?!? The Par 3 King. Playing in the group behind we witnessed the clutch par save on #6 to halve the hole and keep momentum going for FTH. 2up at the turn, you have to think Dante/Paul would have gone on to win this match.

James/Ryan vs Jamie/Duce
The first round of golf I've ever played with Duce. I think he hit at least two 300+ yard drives on the front 9... WTF?!?!? Great driver of the ball. That being said, the rest of Duce's game wasn't there on this day, I'm almost certain he didn't actually contribute his score on any hole. I could be wrong, but this was the Jamie Bebrin show. Jamie played great, Ryan and I played mediocre, and the result was an AS situation through 9. Of course I want to say Ryan and I would have easily taken care of business here but we didn't get a chance to do so and frankly it's our own fault for not jumping out to an early lead, given the fact we had to be the heavy Vegas favorites.

So after the round we decided to essentially call every match a wash (you are welcome, FTH) except the guaranteed half point from the TMT vs Adam "matchup" that never happened. My best guess if we didn't get rained out of the back 9 would have been a 3-1 lead for #reVOLT, but instead we left Pawley's Island with a back 9 rain check (for next year) and #reVOLT up 0.5 to 0. With FTH winning 4.0, an auto half point advantage built in, we went into Saturday virtually tied.

Friday Night we called team meetings so each group could huddle and nominate their teams for Saturday AM.  It seemed at this point in time that the chemistry on #reVOLT was great, while FTH were having some internal struggles and arguments about pairings/strategy. To be fair, it's tougher when you have the 2 worst golfers on the trip to mange your roster, but I would say that on #reVOLT we were obviously focused on the golf but really just there to have a blast. FTH seemed a little more uptight, which ultimately probably contributed to their eventual demise. Hate to see it.

After we selected the Saturday matches, we headed out to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and Red Sox World Series action. The only real note worthy event was Jeremy accidentally eating half of Beckerman's dinner, which caused a small problem. NYGL stock down after this incident for sure.

Saturday AM- Alternate Shot

Alternate Shot was first introduced to our group last year, at 4.0, and was a major hit. It was easily voted as the favorite format of the group, so we kept it in the schedule again for MBV. This year's alternate shot match was to be played at Heathland- a course with rich MB history in our group:

-The original feud between Campbell and Jeremy stemmed from a BEAT DOWN on this course from OGMB.... Ryan essentially carried Jeremy to a 7&6 victory over Abe and Campbell- the worst loss in MB history for 3 years- and so at MB 3.0 Jeremy beat Campbell 1up on Heathland in a super hyped singles match.

-Dante and I had an EPIC scramble match with the Blogbrins at 3.0 on Heathland. Maybe the best match in our groups MB history... birdies on top of birdies on top of birdies. Dante and I won 2 and 1.

Dante/Marty vs Bill/Beck
I was playing behind this match and it seemed like Dante and Marty jumped out to an early lead at the start of the round. Marty is a good partner for Dante in alt shot- he's consistent, doesn't find much trouble (how can you when you only hit it 185?) and essentially allowed Dante to play aggressively which is always dangerous for his opponents. The #reVOLT guys were down late in the match but made a late charge and found themselves on the 18th hole down 1 but with a chance to truly "steal" half a point after being down the whole match. Beck left Bill in a tough spot off the tee, but Bill hit a heroic approach from the edge of the woods to the green and eventually these guys were in the hole  and waiting for Marty to hit his 15 foot downhill putt to square the hole. I didn't get to see it, but Marty nailed the putt (CLUTCH) and squared the hole to win the match 1up.

James/Campbell vs Jamie/Jeremy
I was confident heading into this match because Campbell was coming off his best round ever the day before. I wanted to play with Campbell because at the time my driving was poor, and figured we would compliment each other nicely. We won the first hole but missed a very short putt on #2 to move to 2up which kinda stalled the early momentum we had. Over the next 7-8 holes Jamie and Jeremy played well and took the lead. Jeremy was solid off the tee, and really actually pretty solid all around. Jamie brought his A game again this round. Whenever Campbell and I won a hole, we seemed to lose the next. Finding ourselves 2 down with 3 to play, we squared the 16th hole after Jeremy missed a 5 foot putt to win the match. Jamie maybe could have left him an easier putt, but Jamie's first full point in MB competition was almost in the bag. After the hole, dormied (2up, 2 to play) Jamie mentioned "I just got my first half point in MB history".... I only wish I had brought champagne on the course to celebrate with him at the time. I laughed on the inside though, knowing that Campbell and I certainly had a chance to win the last 2 especially with the fuel Jamie provided of kinda "celebrating" his half point a little early. 17th hole, par 3, Campbell had a 15 foot downhill putt  from just off the green to win the hole. He left the putt short- it only went about halfway- and with FTH in the hole, I was standing over a 8 foot downhill slider to keep the match alive. Easily the most nervous I had been standing over a putt in 2018. I literally felt Jamie and Jeremy's hope smilesbehind me and used that energy to sink the putt. On the last hole, Jamie's approach was off to the left of the green a bit, and found a bunker. All day Jeremy kept saying  "just dont put me in the bunker" .... and now we know why. His out landed on the green but rolled into another bunker. across the green.  Jamie got out, but it wasn't close enough. I tapped in from 3 feet for the bogey, won the hole, squared the match, and sent Jamie into a depressed downward spiral of Ciroque vodka. This match was AS through 18. Congrats to Jamie on his half point, though. Bravo.

Abe/# vs Paul
Joe was supposed to play with Paul but with travel delays. Didn't make it. So the kid was on his own. Let me tell you when our group got the text "Paul is 3up through 5" we were STUNNED. Dan said he almost fell out of his cart when he read the text. Bravo to Paul for a strong effort. After back to back pars on 7 and 8, though, Abe and Coates squared the match. You would think Paul would mail it in at this point but no- he won the 9th hole and took a lead to the back. The magic would end, though, as Paul lost every hole from 10 on and ended up losing 5&4. Shout out Paul for his effort. For those folks counting at home, Abe took his personal MB match play record to 4-0-0 with this win. Go Abe Go.

Dan/Ryan vs Duce/Adam
Team Birthday, we knew, was going to be a hard team to beat. What we didn't know, was that they would proceed to set the MB record for biggest blowout. The started hot- 3up through 3- and only lost 1 hole in the entire match. In fact, they were so dominant, they only HALVED two holes the entire match. Adam probably wasn't at the top of his game, despite the day off Friday he was still ILL BRO, and again Duce had trouble when he wasn't on the tee box. The final score was 8 & 6... a record blowout loss that only lasted about 24 hours...

Saturday Scramble @ Pakland

MBV full crew pic

The Saturday Afternoon Scramble was played from the tips on Parkland...about 7200 yards. A very long course. It stunk we started about half an hour later than we were supposed to, and because of that half the groups actually didn't get to play the last hole or two. I love Parkland- it's a pretty course, challenging, and a lot of fun. However, it is FAR different from last year's scramble course Man O War. Much, much more challenging. There were very few "birdie dances" or "roars"... which was sad because that is always fun, even if your group isn't the one making the birdies.

#skyguy Dan with a beaut

#reVOLT team #1 was myself, Ryan, Beck and #. The same foursome as last year when we went -5 and had the second best score. We ended up recording two birdies and two bogeys for an even par 72... though it was a little disappointing we bogeyed #2 and #18 so almost book ended the round with the 2 worst holes. That being said.... we played outstanding as group. I personally played my best golf of the trip in this round- thankfully- highlighted by a long par save from just of the green after terrible tee shots and bunker shots from the whole group. Coates had the highlight of the round with a v long (60 foot) putt NO ONE expected us to make on the #17 green, we were super pumped to move to -1 with 1 to go but unfortunately gave that shot back on the last. hole Still, an even par 72 was again good for second best score in the format.

The other #reVOLT team was team Dedham-  Bill, Abe, Dan, and Campbell. Last year Mike was on this foursome instead of Campbell and I think the chemistry dynamic of adding Campbell was huge. Last year this group shot a +1 on Man O War, this year they shot a +1 (73) at a significantly harder course. I was #proud of Bill for leading this group to a great round, he knows I gave him a lot (prob too much) shit for not playing better in last years scramble.

Fairway to Heaven made a switch this year, splitting up Jamie and Dante from last year's lowest scoring scramble team. This year Dante played with Marty, Jeremy and Paul. I know Paul made the first putt of the round on the first hole (must have been electric), and Jeremy/Marty played well... but you know Dante was heavily leaned on, especially off the tee, and he delivered again this round. The group shot -2 (70) and led all four teams with the best score. The other Fairway to Heaven team of Adam/Duce/Jamie/Joe finished at +1 (73) and according to Adam they played well but simply couldn't sink any putts.

Floss game on point

With a combined score of -1, team FTH gained 1 full point in the competition to bring the overall score going into Sunday to 3-2.5 in favor of #reVOLT. Our team knew we couldn't stop, but simply hoped to contain, FTH in the scramble. Taking a lead into Sunday was a huge confidence boost for our squad... at this point #reVOLT needed 4 points to clinch the MBV title and we knew we had the matchup advantage on Sunday.

#foreshadowing

Sunday Singles- Match Play @ Moorland

Campbell vs Joe
Joe is by far the least skilled golfer on the trip, which makes it tough for both him and his opponent in this format. Shoutout to Campbell for volunteering to play Joe. I think we said pre-round Joe would get 2+ strokes a hole (at least) but it sounds like that didn't matter much. Campbell ended up winning the match 7&6, at least both these dudes are great human beings so I'm sure it was an enjoyable round despite the lack of  on course competitiveness. To review Campbell's weekend- He smoked Jeremy on Friday, scratched out a half point comeback in alt shot, and won his singles match. It was great to have Bunny back on this trip after a 1 year hiatus.

Beck vs Duce
Beckerman came into Sunday after posting a then record worst loss to Marty last year on Sunday. Which came out of left field. I played with Beckerman on Saturday afternoon and while he was solid, he clearly wasn't at the top of his game. Beckerman held a 2up lead at the turn in a close match. His lead bounced back and forth from 1up to 2up. Beck won a couple holes in a row and ended up being dormied at 5 &5. He missed a near gimme range put on 14 to go to up 4 with 4 to go. It seemed like, yet again, Duce was good at ball striking but struggled on the flat surface, (actually the greens on Moorland are anything BUT flat) and after a mini mental breakdown Beck closed the match on 15 with a 4 &3 win and officially redeemed himself from MB4.0

Ryan vs Adam
Adam is a polarizing golfer. A lot of times he's either really good or really bad. After a tough Saturday morning, mediocre Saturday afternoon, and 2 nights of not drinking, fortunately for FTH the good version of Adam showed up to this match. Adam started off with a win on the first hole and was never down at any point the entire match.  Ryan won the next hole to square things up early.  After a bad tee shot early Adam said "Yep, I know what I’m doing wrong now" and really never missed another drive after the adjustment. His length was definitely a big advantage over Ryan. Both guys missed at least two 3 footers at different points in the match to either half or win the hole. Ryan struggled chipping and Adam kept his scores relatively consistent.  A birdie on the par 5 fifteenth hole secured the win and Adam won 4&3 to end the weekend on a high note.

Abe vs Paul
I would say on balance Paul was an impressive golfer at MBV. Much improved through the years despite not really playing golf ever. The front 9 of this match was somewhat close, Paul won a couple holes. But, the experienced Abe bore down at the turn and "smashed Paul's head in" on the back, winning consecutive holes to close the match 6&5. For those counting at home... Abe is now 5-0-0 in his 5 matches since taking over captaincy of #reVOLT. That's 5 wins and 0 losses. Not a typo.

Bill vs Jamie
Bill and Jamie squared off in singles last year with Bill coming out on top with stellar play. This year's match was essentially no different- I suspect Jamie didn't play great (which was a surprise- Jamie played great all weekend) since I saw 3 shots of his in this match and 2 of them went in the woods. Bill's strength is his consistency throughout the bag, and you essentially cant play bad and expect to beat Bill. Poor Jamie... for the sake of his health it may be best for his captains to avoid matching him vs Bill next year... at this point Bill is renting out all the space in Jamie's brain. Not good for Jamie who dropped his MB match record to 0-4-1 after this 5&4 lopsided loss.  Yikes. #prayforJamie

James vs Dante
Dante was clearly the best golfer on the trip through the first few days, and while I normally have solid success vs Dante in match play, this time I didn't really put up a fight. And the sad part is that Dante didn't play THAT great in this match. Playing from the tips certainly hurt my chances given the current state of my game, although I was proud of myself for at least making the match look respectable on the scorecard despite being 100+ yards shorter than Dante on almost every hole. I lost the first hole and the third hole to go down 2 early on, and from there it took a mistake by Dante for me to win any hole. I think I maybe won 2, 3 holes max. Normally great, my putting was pedestrian. All weekend I struggled chipping out of the Bermuda grass. Of course after a third of the match I started playing well, but it was far too little and much too late. Dante still had plenty of moments of greatness. I sank a long (20') par putt on 16 (257 yard par 3!) to stay alive for about 30 seconds before Dante rolled in a 15'  for the 3&2 victory. The same margin of victory I enjoyed over him in last year's Sunday bout. Maybe a rubber match is in store for MB6.9? Time will tell.

Coates vs Marty
I had the pleasure of riding along for this one, the closest match of the day. We teed off last and I think every single person in the group hit a solid drive on the first hole except Coates, who pulled his opening shot left into the woods and was forced take a drop. A theme of this match- Coates was wildly inconsistent off the tee. That being said, Coates actually came back and won the first hole despite the drop. Despite playing with me and Dante, the truth is Coates was the best putter in the group on this day. He sank, on almost every hole, his first putt. It was impressive. Almost automatic. Until the last hole, that is. Marty was consistently 180-199 off the tee (lol, j/k... he hit a few over 200) and really kept himself in almost every hole. I would say he deserved the win from being the more consistent player, despite not putting great. The match ended, as I mentioned earlier, on what was a rare 3 putt by #.  A 12 foot putt to win the hole and go to 18 AS... he was little aggressive and missed the 3 foot come backer to fall 2&1 to Marty in what was a really good match.

Dan vs Jeremy
It wasn't too long ago that Jeremy created his golf "hit list"  and for some reason, Dan was on it. Well, ask and you shall receive. Coming off a record breaking blowout in Alt shot, Dan was actually predicting on Saturday night he was going to trump that score and beat Jeremy even worse on Sunday. We all laughed and knew he had a great chance to win.... but we didn't realize he actually would go on to set the all time biggest blow out record again, for the second consecutive round. Jeremy won 1 single hole, amazingly only squared 1 hole, and lost the other 10. That's right, Jeremy lost 10 of 12 holes in the match and lost 8&7. A new MB record of futility. Let's also not forget to mention around the time Jeremy lost, the Jets were also getting trounced by the Bears. Not the best afternoon for the co-captain of FTH. Later this evening, the Red Sox would go on to win the World Series. How many L's can one man take?!?!

Bend that knee

"To the fans and everybody in FTH, I’m sorry. I’m extremely sorry. We were hoping for back to back W’s. That was my goal, something nobody has never done here.” “I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season.” “You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season.” “God Bless.”  -Jeremy Tebow

The final score of the competition was 8-5.5. Considering it would be a 2 point swing if FTH had won any of the 5 matches they lost on Sunday, it truly was a well contested golf tournament from start to finish. Congrats to both teams for a good weekend, but extra props to #reVOLT for taking care of business and winning the "M".

The 2018 Open Championship

2018's third major is this week with the 147th playing of the Open Championship aka the British Open for n00bs. The venue this year is in Scotland at Carnoustie- which lasted hosted the Open Championship in 2007 when Paddy Harrington took it home in a playoff vs Sergio Garcia. That Sunday, Sergio shot over par after entering the day 3 strokes ahead of Steve Stricker and 6 strokes ahead of the guys tied for third at the time. A classic Sergio choke job.

This year, Carnoustie is going to be BROWN. Scotland has had a scorching Summer. Check out what it currently looks like:

This means we will see plenty of 400+ yard drives when the guys pull out driver. However, we may see a LOT of irons off the tee as the course is playing about 7400 yards which is not crazy long for these pros. Last year Jordan Spieth won his first Open championship and will look to win his 4th Major and back to back Opens. Here is the current OWGR

On to the fantasy side of things. All time Major Winners, updated since Jeremy took home his 5th major last month with the US Open.  He is looking to be the first to complete the career grand slam this week with a win. Paul has won the Open Championship 3x, and Dante is looking to defend from his first major win last July.

2018 US Open

Welcome to the 118th US Open! This year the guys on tour will revisit Shinnecock Hills on Long Island. The last time the US Open was there, the greens burned out over the weekend and the USGA got a ton of shit, and havent been back since. Now, apparently, the course is back in pristine condition.

As we know, the true 2018 US Open Champ has already been established. El Pres from Barstool Sports shot a -3* with only 600+ mulligans at Shinnecock a month ago. Easy win for Team Portnoy which I'm basically a part of, or would be if Pres knew me.

Here are the Official World Golf ranks heading into the US Open. As per usual, Dustin Johnson is dominating (he holed out for eagle on 18 this past Sunday in an easy win), Phil is still chasing his career grand slam (Hes come in in 2nd like 6 times in the US Open, never won it), and Rickie Fowler will try to shake the "best player without a Major" title. (Although Matt Kuchar is right there with him).

DDIHC- A Brief History

As we are at the dawn of a new (Summer) season for Dead Dogg Inc Hockey Club, I thought it would be a good time to review the history of the franchise in full for the record books.

The Doggs journey started in the Summer of 2015. That Summer season I'll never forget our first few games we got smoked.  In the first 5 games we got outscored 41-7. We sucked and got bumped down to the D division where we clearly belonged. First time (as in first time ever playing organized hockey games) players on the Doggs included The goalie Dan Cosgrove, the Captain Paul Taylor, D Man Adam Beckvold, and forward Sean Cosgrove. All my best friends- credit to these guys for taking up the game "late" in life in their late 20s.

The rest of that Summer season went better, but we ended up losing in our first game of the single elimination playoffs.

Our first Winter season, which is longer and significantly more important than Summer season, was one to remember. We had started to create "rivalries" with teams in the league and throughout the season we definitely improved as a team. The rookies started to understand how to play team hockey and we had some talented players that helped fill in the lines. We finished the regular season 9-1 in our last 10 games and came in 2nd place. The playoffs that season were a blur. It's double elimination in the Winter season but we didn't lose a single game. We beat the Ice Hawks 5-4, then played our best game of the season/franchise history when we eliminated the Wolverines (the first place team) 10-3. We faced the Ice hawks again in the final- ended up winning the game 4-3 (with multiple short handed goals) in front of a crowd of no lie- about 75 people. Easily the biggest post High School crowd I've played in front of- it was awesome. Friends and Family members of DDIHC showed up in droves, and we delivered the hardware.

The next Summer season was a let down for the Doggs... we went 6-7-4 in the regular season and again were eliminated in the first game of the Summer playoffs. #themes

The next season, The Winter 2016-17 was another historic one for the Doggs. While it was hard to top what we did in 2015-16.... we may have done that in 16/17. We went 13-9-1 in the regular season but again, like the previous year, got hot at the right time. going 6-1 down the stretch. In the playoffs, we beat Kaos 5-2 in the first round. we (Dan) SHUTOUT the WRS Panthers 3-0 in the second round (#supTim). Our finals opponent- the Coops- had been around for 20+ years. Older guys, good team. They hadn't lost yet either so we had a best of 3 series against them to try and defend our title. They came in first place in the regular season. However.... The Doggs barked loudly again this "series." The first game we squeaked by 3-2, after entering the 3rd period tied. It was a great game. Game 2, with the Coops facing elimination was even better. Trailing 3-1 entering the 3rd period, The Doggs came through with 2 big goals in the 3rd to tie it up. Into sudden death OT we went. Did I mention this game was on the Olympic ice in Walpole? To me, it makes the victory even more impressive. 14 minutes into OT (14 minutes!) we won the game. Props to Dan the goalie for shutting the door the entire second half of the game, and electric Derrick Slonina put the Coops away for good in the end. Back to back winter champs in our first 2 winter seasons

Summer 2017- Another mediocre season. Clearly this franchise was built for the Winter. 4-12-1 was our record and we got eliminated again in the first playoff game. Our Summer playoff record is 0-3 at this point, our Winter playoff record is 7-0.

The next season- the last full season we've played at the time of this blog- was unfortunately a sad one. We started off HORRIBLE. 1-10-1 though 12 games. We bounced back a bit in the second half but failed to qualify for the playoffs, and didnt get the chance to defend our back to back winter titles. Sad. The last game of the season was noteworthy, though- we (Dan) shut out the Ice Hawks and Adam scored his first goal ever (EN).

Fairway to Heaven wins EPIC MB 4.0 on 4th Playoff Hole

After a thrilling weekend of competition, it's only fitting that MB 4.0 came down to the last day. Down 6 to 4,  #reVOLT needed to go 4-2 in Sunday Singles to prevent Fairway to Heaven from clinching, and that's exactly what happened. With the score tied up 8-8, we made an impromptu decision to have the captains play a playoff for the title. Jeremy ended up sinking a 25 foot putt on the 4th playoff hole for par and a victory for Fairway to Heaven. Below is a full recap of 4.0:

THURSDAY- Practice rounds. Caledonia & River Oaks Plantation

Dante, Bill and I played Caledonia early on Thursday AM as a treat for being adults and flying instead of driving down. What a gorgeous course it was. We played skins and Dante ended up with half of them, although all of us played well. Here are some pics from the course:

In the afternoon we returned to River Oaks Plantation after a practice round here in 2016 post hurricane. The great company of GolfNow helped us book affordable tee times.

Some people had an actual match to play, others were just out there to get some extra hacks in before the event officially started Friday. Little did we know how much drama the practice round would produce. Headlines from Thursday:

Adam WD's himself after 9 holes due to a staph infection- credit to Adam for surviving the drive down and attempting to play golf. After 9 holes he headed to the hospital and was diagnosed with a staph infection and was given anti bodies. Looking back its a lot easier to joke about now, at the time everyone felt bad for Adam who was miserable. Luckily Adam felt much better after the doctors trip. Looking back it ended up being Adam's only loss on the weekend.

The Blogbrins lose to Dante/James on the 18th hole in a rematch-  The Blogbrins lost to me and Dante 2 & 1 in the 2 man scramble competition @ MB 3.0. They asked for a re-match and the stage was set for Thursday afternoon. Ryan arrived in MB a mere 90 minutes prior to tee time, Jamie had driven all night, and Dante and I had played 36 holes int he previous 24 hours including 18 at Caledonia in the morning. The Blogbrins took an early lead in the match and led most of the holes on the front. I don't believe either team was ever more than 1 up, and we started bringing the heat on the back 9 with both teams birdieing 2 holes on the toughest 3 hole stretch of the course. Jamie was lethal in and on the greens, Ryan and him played very well as team picking each other up when need be. All Square on the 16th tee, the Blogbrins won that hole with a par. With a 1up lead on the 17th tee, both Jamie and Ryan unfortunately drove the ball into the water right and had to take a drop, losing the hole, and going to 18 All Square.  Dante/ Dustin Johnson then took over. After I put out out a "safe" 250 yard drive, Dante blasted a ball 300+ on this long par 5. The Blogbrins again had trouble off the tee, and ended up lying 3 a good 40 yards from the green. Again I took a "safe" 6 iron shot advancing the ball 190 yards which allowed Dante to pull out Hybrib. RIP to this ball  because he and then basically cheated and hit the ball another 240 up the fairway just off the green. Needing just a birdie to win from there, Dante chipped first and decided to go BOSS mode and dropped in the eagle chip for the 1 up win while the poor blogbrins were left standing speechless on the side watching all their hopes and dreams and matching outfits go down the drain for another devastating loss. What would turn out to be somewhat of a theme for Mr. Jamie Bebrin later in the weekend.

Abe vs Jeremy-
With so much shit talking going on prior to the trip, it almost required this matchup to happen on Thursday in case by some chance Jeremy and Abe weren't paired together Sunday. Abe, who switched to playing lefty about 2 months ago, must have forgot to show up to the tee time because after 4 holes Jeremy was 4up. Through the front 9 though, Abe battled back and somehow actually squared the match at the turn. I wasn't in this group so I don't know many details, but I do know at one point Jeremy won a hole with a 9 where Abe took an 11! Gotta love match play. As the match progressed, Jeremy had close out putts on 15, 16 and 17 but missed them all. (Something like that). Heading to 18 All Square, Jeremy and Abe took many hacks to get to the green but once they were there the stage was set for a dramatic finish. With most of the group watching greenside, Abe sunk a 20 foot downhill putt to win the match. Absolutely electric putt from Abe. Luckily for me, our group had basically hit into Jewremy and Abe on 18 and we stood greenside and watched Abe bury that putt and pull off the 1up victory over Jeremy after being down 4 after 4. I dont think anyone heard a peep from Jeremy the rest of the night! Abe partied hard... so hard he was passed out during his player Amari Cooper's 56 point fantasy night. What a day for Abe, another trend that continued throughout the weekend.

Friday Fourball- First Official matches & Go Marty Go tee shot

The first official event of the weekend. Fourball-a format we've never played- at the polarizing Witch Golf Course. Some people I talk to LOVE the course, others HATE it. Put me in the group of people who loved it. I thought it was awesome. It was hard, actually it looked a lot like a New England type golf course vs your typical Myrtle beach course. Hilly, tree lined woods, big open bodies of water, just a pretty course especially this time of year in the Fall. Haters will say the course was too wet but that's largely because they cant strike a ball properly.

crowd on tee box

prior to the 180 yard bomb

First on the tee was Go Marty Go. The most hyped tee shot in MB history. A tee shirt, and moreso pride was on the line after 7-8 months of going back and forth on the 200 yard drive bet. When we rolled up to the first tee box, it looked like an EASY hole to hit one 200. Wide open. As the person betting against Marty hitting 200+,  I was nervous. With all our group on the tee, Marty stepped up and hit a drive that simply came off the face right, faded, hit the trees and fell around 180. I won the "Go Marty Go" shirt he made and it was an exciting start to the official event.

Hope lean
My new favorite shirt

James/Abe 3&2 over Jamie/Marty
Abe and I owned the front 9, with Jamie and Marty failing to win a hole until #10. On both of the par 5's I wasted a stroke- one on a drop and one on a fat shot from the rough- but managed to make pretty great par saves to win the holes. Those were the back breakers for Jamie and Marty.  Abe did not play his best golf but luckily I had a good enough round to hold off Jamie and Marty through the first 12 holes or so until Abe helped out by hitting a big putt on a Par 3 to protect our 2 hole lead, and eventually we made enough putts to finish off Marty and Jamie on the 16th green with a par.

Jeremy/Dante 4&3 over Bill/Dan
I don't have the best pulse of all the other matchups outside of my own, but playing in front of this group it was apparent Dante (and Jeremy I suppose) were having a great round. Bill and Dan both played under expectations, and lost on the 15th hole from a putt by Jeremy... the only hole on the day his score was used. Dante(and Jeremy I suppose) withstood a small comeback from Dan and Bill on the back 9 but Dante ended that with a chip in on 13 to take back all the momentum.

Adam/Paul 6&5 over #/Mike
#Blownout. This match was never close, with Mike having a tough round with rental clubs and only a few hours of sleep. # got a second glove at the turn and played better, but Paul was solid and Adam was simply too good to be beaten on this day.

Ryan/Beckerman 6&4 over Brain/Joe
Another lopsided match. Brian, whos older, may have not had a full tank of gas after arriving in MB earlier in the morning and working off a couple hours of sleep. Ryan should have, and did, take care of business. I am sure a few holes Beck contributed as well.

After Friday, the score was tied 2-2:

Saturday AM Alternate Shot

Saturday's course was Man O'War- which looks intimidating from pictures and the scorecard with so much water. For MONTHS we talked about how many balls we would all lose in the water.  However, this was the most playable course we've been to in MB. Wide open, very few trees in the way, this course is a little longer but with soft greens and an open layout, it really was a course that even an unskilled golfer could enjoy.

Abe/Dan 3&2 over Jeremy/Marty
Captains vs Captain in Alt shot. Another matchup that had a lot of hype built up coming in. Abe turned it around from his play on Friday and combined with Dan, was too much for Fairway to Heaven to handle. The match seemed close through the front and onto the back, Abe and Dan with a huge moral victory and momentum for team #reVOLT. They shot an 89 as a team, which is better than they both have ever scored individually. That is called stepping up. Also of note- Abe turned around and used one of his righty clubs on a chip on a hole him and Dan ended up winning. Talk about pouring salt in the other captain's wounds- they incessantly made fun of Abe for switching to lefty.

Yes we really did this

Dante/Paul 3 &2 over James/Mike
All the momentum our team had from match 1 was immediately squashed after this match. The previous night I was warned that it would be significantly harder with Mike for me to beat Dante/Paul than anyone had originally expected. Paul actually beat Mike on Friday in stroke play. First tee shot- Dante and I stripe drives and Mike, who arrived right at tee time, actually hit our second shot BACKWARDS in the fairway. That was the point in time I said "Oh Shit" and realized my perfect match play record in MB was in jeopardy. Yes, that eary in the round, the second shot of the day, I felt way behind.  Paul played well especially on the Front, with Dante actually struggling a little bit. Still, Mike and I team couldn't score better than double bogey every hole. We were 5 down after 9 so decided to just play hole by hole and get it back to a manageable number. Well, we did just that. Mike was clearly better on the back 9 (if he hit the range pre-round, might have been a different match result) and we got it all the way back to being 3 down with 5 to play. Paul made a clutch shot (chipped it close enough for a gimmie) from off the green on 15, and despite our par on 16 we ended up squaring the hole and losing the match 3 & 2.

Adam/Brian 3&2 over Ryan/#
Brian is again slightly older and does NOT like playing from the tips. Probably until he played with Adam in this match, that is. Again I have little to no idea what really happened in this match but on the outside looking in, just seems like Adam was able to put Brian in better spots than Ryan was for # and it ended up being a somewhat easy victory for team Fairway to Heaven

Bill/Beck 6&4 over Jamie/Joe
Yikes, another blow out. For anyone keeping score at home this would be 3 losses in 3 matches (2 official)  for Jamie Bebrin. Joe is just such a hard guy to play alternate shot with, so it seems as if Jamie had no chance from the get go. Might have been a good match if me and Mike played against Jamie and Joe and Bill/Beck vs Dante/Paul. Anyway, Probably not much to say about this matchup as the #reVOLT team dominated from start to finish.

So after 8 matches the score remained tied, this time at  4-4 heading into Saturday afternoon's  scramble. Again at Man O'War, I knew it would take a solid score to win points since it was an easy course to get aggressive on.

Saturday Afternoon Scramble

Fairway to Heaven
Dante, Jamie, Joe, Brian -7
Adam, Jeremy, Marty, Paul -1
Total -8

The FTH group of Adam/Jet/Marty/Paul went out first and I believe they were -1 early on in the round. I know they birdied the last hole (every group did) so the majority of the round I can assume thee were a couple birdies and a couple bogeys. I imagine they birdied holes that Adam hit bombs on, and parred or bogeys holes that he was wild off the tee and they were forced to take prob a 180 or so drive from Marty, or something.

The other FTH group went off 3rd and was the group in front of me. I knew they had a great chance to put up a low score with their combination of Length + short game skills (Mostly Dante + Jamie). Dante seemed to be doing his stupid birdie dance all day! Early on this group was hot, and apparently missed a handful of makeable putts on the front. It seemed as if everytime my group (playing behind this team) would make a huge putt and let out a loud roar, this fousome responded. My group made a LONG birdie putt on 14 that we knew put us 1 stroke behind this team. On the island par 3 15th hole, we saw this group all off to the far left, it looked like they were off the green. Maybe 2 minutes after our birdie roar, somehow Dante drained a 50+ foot par putt and FTH was flying high. The very next hole apparently Dante, Jamie, and Joe  all couldn't find their drives, so they forced Brian to go back to the tee to hit one. He was playing hurt, and hadn't been hitting drives unless needed. Instead of hitting 3 from about 100 out, Brian hit a nice drive in the fairway and this group somehow managed to go up and down for another birdie! Unreal. This foursome was great all day.

#reVOLT
Bill, Dan, Mike, Abe +1
James, Ryan, Beck, # -5
Total -4

Bill/Dan/Abe/Mike were playing even par golf most of the day and seemed to simply lack the energy to go low. I know they birdied the last hole on a nice putt by Abe, but the big news from this round was the killing of a goose. Mike hit a line drive ball that struck a goose in the neck at high impact. Clearly the goose was fatally injured. JOE, who was in the group behind but had caught up, went over and put the goose out of it's misery. After that happened it seemed to somehow rattle this foursome, as they played over par the rest of the way.

My foursome was a different story- our round was an electric factory. It started with a long birdie putt on hole 3 from #. Next was a long par save putt I made after the other 3 guys missed. Next was a BOMB putt by Beckerman. Later on #9 I hit a 6 iron into the wind from 175 to a foot for a tap in birdie and a bogey free -3 front 9. As I mentioned, we knew we had to keep up with the birdie boys in front of us and I was proud for us pushing so hard. After birdie on 11 and RYAN making HIS loooong birdie putt on 14, we were #jackedup. The group in front had the incredible birdie on 15 after losing all but Brian's drive, and we knew we had to do something. 15th green, about 40 feet away, Beckerman steps up first. Right before he was about to hit- RIGHT before- I stopped him and we adjusted our line. Next thing you know beck's putt falls into the middle of the cup. The next hole Beck striped a 5 wood onto the green and we lipped out there as well. 18 we birdied after a small square off with a squirrel in the fairway, and at least 3 of us actually almost chipped in for Eagle. Electric round from this foursome.

After Saturday and going into singles, the score was Fairway to Heaven 6, #reVOLT 4 with 7 matchups for Sunday.

Sunday Singles

Drama city. What looked like a fairly easy day for Fairway to Heaven, with no less than 2 guaranteed wins, turned into a frenzy at the ihop at Breakfast. Joe texted me that Brian was a Sunday morning injury scratch which shifted all the matchups. You want the definition of triggered? Marty was #triggered when the news broke.  This whole issue- and yes Marty DID accuse me of Tara Lipinsky-ing Brian the night before- created a scenario where Fairway to Heaven needed 2.5 points to clinch, out of the 6 possible points with only one really strongly favored match (Adam vs Dan).

Below are all the matchups in chronological order from when the finished:

Marty 7 &6 over Beckerman
No Bueno. Not a good start for #reVOLT. Even though this match was played in the last foursome, it was over super early. All you really need to know about this match comes from Beckerman himself: "To start the day I made a ridiculously long putt on #1 for a par to go 1up, then a decently long putt on #2 to remain at 1up... then he proceeded to stomp my head in and play really well to tie the record for biggest blowout". Well said. In fact Marty on 8 of the next 10 holes after #2 to close out Beck. A small amount of redemption for Marty who was winless on the weekend up until this match.

Bill 5 &4 over Jamie
I had the pleasure of riding along for this one. This match was in the middle twosome, which Bill and I said was critical that we both won so that the event would at least come down to the last group. Neither of us wanted to be the one to lose the clinching match. Bill played like shit on the first 2 holes, was in pocket on both. After some mental readjusting, though, Bill went on a TEAR. Jamie didn't even play that bad, but Bill was making birdies and pars while Jamie was settling for pars and the occasional bogey. Bill led 2up after 9 and ended up wining a couple holes in the row to end this this early.

# 3 & 2 over Joe/Paul
# came through big time in this match. Joe and Paul both had a chance to win the hole for their team vs just # and at first, it was working. I heard JOE MADE PAR ON HOLE 1 which is borderline unbelievable (the #1 handicap hole par 5 with water) and Paul played well at times but # ended up winning the match because it was fake news that he would be too injured to beat Paul and he proved it on Sunday

James  3&2 over Dante
#Hypedup. How many previews of this match did we see this Summer? 12? I was so excited to play Dante- undefeated on the weekend- on Sunday. I typically play well in matches vs Dante and I knew it would be a challenge given the state of his game. On the first hole Dante gave me an absolute GIFT by hitting too aggressive of a line over the water (aka trying to cheat) and dunking the tee shot in the drink. From there I maintained a 1 hole lead most of the match, although I did relinquish it at least 2 different times. I was never down in this match at all, though. As the round went on, I was hitting some GREAT drives down the middle of the fairway. Dante knew I was driving the ball well which generally means I would be tough to beat, so he was hitting Driver himself all day (instead of his 250 yard 3 iron stinger). Dante found the round a couple too many times. We both could have putt better... it seems as if the couple times I missed a 10 footer Dante ALSO missed it and failed to take advantage. On the 13th ole par 3 on the back I moved to 2up with a LONG birdie putt. The very next hole Dante lose his drive and I managed to squeak by with a bogey and another hole won. Credit to Dante for hitting an absolute bomb being 3down with his back against the wall on 15. He won the hole and took the match to 16, where my 6 foot par putt won the hole and match. Did I think about how the other team picked Dante over me in the draft all day? Yes. Yes I did. Haters fuel me. Don't pick against me. #SupJeremy #SupMarty. I told you bitches I would win my matchup Sunday.

Adam 2up over Dan

The only match to make it to the final hole from the official events of the weekend. Dan was a big underdog going in.... there was a imbalance in talent due to Ryan leaving early. Adam, like Dante, was too aggressive on his opening tee shot and hit it in the water and went down 1. I think Dan actually got his lead to 2up at one point, but eventually Adam came back and took a 2up lead to 17. I believe Dan won the hole and brought it back down to 1down on 18. Adams drive flirted with the water line but stayed in, and was very deep. Dan also hit his nice, but unfortunately proceeded to dunk his approach in the water. He dropped and did it again. and again. Losing the match in any fairway sucks, this was especially shitty because it dormied Fairway to Heaven.

Abe 2&1 over Jeremy
A rematch from Thursday's emotional win for Abe. "This time it counts" signs from the patrons all over the course. Apparently this match was a see saw.... back and forth with NO squared holes until the 8th or so. After that, they halved 4 or 5 in a row. Clearly coming down to the wire in a close match, and knowing that Abe very likely needed to win to keep #reVOLT alive, he played "lights out" according to Jeremy on 15 and 16 and they halved 17 with bogeys and Jeremy was dead. 2nd loss to Abe (lefty) in 3 days.

At this point in time, we knew after Adam won 18 and Abe squared 17 that the overall score was tied 8-8. #reVolt went 4-2 and tied it up. Naturally, we wanted to have a playoff. We radioed back to Abe and Jeremy and told them to start a 1 hole sudden death playoff on the 18th. The 18th hole has 2 forced carries over water and it was windy, so we knew someone would likely win the hole. Abe hit his drive in to the water and had to drop. Jeremy hit one to the middle of the fairway. Abe then tried to "lay up" but he hit it too hard and it went in the drink. There is Abe, dropping 4 and hitting 5. Jeremy is a little further back after a lay up of his own about to hit shot #3. Guess what happens? Of course you already know. We all knew what was going to happen. Splash city. Now Jeremy has to take a drop next to Abe and they are both hitting 5. Abe carries the green long, Jeremy puts a beauty in the middle of the surface. After a chip, missed putt, and tap in, Abe was in for 8. Jeremy needed to 2 putt from about 20 feet for the win of course choked again, for the second time on the hole. Missed I would say what... a 4 foot putt for the win?

This is when we regrouped, and asked if we could go out and have the captains play a fourball sudden death playoff. The staff said yes, enjoy, and so we did just that. With a gallery of 10 people and 4 carts, the 4 captains played the first hole again under immense pressure. Dan was putting the pressure on and Marty was responding on this hole. On the green, Marty ended up with a short 5 footer for par and the win.... and missed it. On to the 3rd playoff hole we went. A par 3. Jeremy was the only one to hit the green but somehow again made bogey ( I think everyone in the group did). Abe's par putt was hit just a sconce too hard and lipped out. On to the 4th playoff hole. With all drives in play, up to the green the gallery went. Abe struggled to get to the green was a non factor on the hole. Marty was greenside in 2. Dan was behind the green. Jeremy was also off. All 3 chips were solid, none were great. Jeremy was first to putt for Fairway to Heaven. Somehow. Someway he MADE the par putt from about 30 feet. It was a very electric moment, even being on the other team. Dan stood over his putt after things calmed down with a chance to square the hole but alas, he lipped out (on the high side, I might add) and it was not meant to be for team #reVOLT.
